HISTORY:
The North Memphis community was once a community with rich, vibrant people; however, the community is now faced with many challenges. Few businesses have survived, and much of the housing stock is old and in poor condition. Unemployment and under-education are severe problems. The population is aging and dwindling. In addition, the community must confront a citywide misconception of being dangerous, drug-infested and prohibitive. In February of 2000, The North Memphis Community Development Corporation (NMCDC) was created to directly confront these problems and create solutions through a formal organization with a comprehensive management structure. We provide the residents of North Memphis the opportunity to successfully rebuild their community from the inside out.
